The Thorns of War Update #15
Hello everyone
We have another update for Thorns of War. Sofia's route is now almost finished with a word count of just over 138,000 (approximately 355,000 for the game so far).
Since we are passed what I hoped would be the release date of October 2020, and the game has triple in scope (considering my first estimates had the game at 400,000 words or 50,000 per route), I have decided to release the game as an early access.
The reason for this is two-fold. I do not want players to have to wait any longer before being able to return to Segunda, and also, I only budgeted to be without an income until October of this year. All the Kickstarter funds raised are going towards art/music etc, so I am not currently making anything to cover my own costs. I was prepared to manage with this arrangement until October, but now it has started to become a problem.
Therefore Bastien's route will be released (at a discount) on Friday 18th December with the first few updates (Sofia's route, extra scenes, TROS POV scenes) planned for the first quarter of 2021. More details on this will be available soon.
Once the whole game is completed, a steam version will be released and everyone who bought the game on itch will be able to get a steam key.
I really hope those of you who are excited to see where the story we began in The Rose of Segunda leads will consider supporting the new game in early access, and my sincere thanks to everyone who has followed our progress so far.

Very, very excited! I loved the first game. I can't wait to support this! I just have a qs on the pricing. It's essentially early access so for those who pay for the game on the 18th, will future updates (the rest of the routes) be free? Hope you are doing well!
Hello there! I'm very glad to hear you're excited and I hope you come to like this game as much as the first one.
And, yes, once you buy the game - be it on the 18th or whenever - you will have bought the whole game, including any routes that have yet to be released, so there will be no further payments required for any future updates.

I will gladly support this Early Access! I'm a backer, but at the time I didn't have enough money for the rewards that came with a game key included, but now I can buy it with no issue so this is perfect! And Bastien is my third favorite route (I love them ALL, mind you), so I'm really excited. (Leopold is forever my #1 and Frederique #2) Lottie also holds a special place in my heart <3

i'm jumping in excitement already :D you may say it's unfortunate the release date keeps being postponed but to know the author loves their story so much the word count keeps going up with each route is amazing. bless you. Heee, also trying no to get impulsive, because 25€ is a lot for little ol' me. I eat one-two VN a day you know - I'd go to ruin pretty soon if all good writer sold access this way, gah ! :<
But TROS (and especially Sofia's route) really blew my mind. I only regret I'll have to wait for it, one month seems forever !
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Sofia's route from the first game - sorry you'll have to wait a little longer for her.
With the game's launch discount on the 18th, I think the price will be about 16.50€ (as opposed to 20€), so I hope that is somewhat better for you.
I would love to be able to make games for free, of course, but everyone involved needs to be paid for their work. ^_^

I already put 100€ into VNs last month, and most were "pay what you want" (which made me proud first, then I realized I couldn't keep this rate >_<).
I wish there were such a thing as a global licence for this already ! Gaaah.
...Or a VN section in every local library ! :o
You can count me in for the early access ! Also just to recap :
- On 18th we will get Bastien's route
- On first quarter 2021 we will get Sofia's route
- Other route will come through the year of 2021/2022

I will release more details of the schedule once I am certain of the timeframe, but Sofia's route will most likely be release in late January.

As for the pricing, initially the game is going to be sold at $24.99, but we are looking at a discount of 20% on that, so $19.99 for the first week or so after launch.

The early access purchases will be available on the 18th - the same day as release. Bastien's route will be released on that day and I am hoping to release Sofia's route in mid-late January, but I will know more in the next week.
